Monthly Meetings

♦ September 7th, 2010 - Aili Curtis - "The Emergence of Abstraction"

Aili Curtis:

Aili has spent most of her life studying, teaching, and working as an artist-in the realms of both fine art and graphic design. Raised in Yellowknife, N.W.T., Aili left the North to study painting at the Ontario College of Art (Toronto) and Ecole des Beaux Arts (Montreal). She then went on to receive a B.A. in Art Education from the University of Quebec in Montreal.

When Aili moved to Ottawa, she worked as an art director for TV, a graphic designer and illustrator, a courtroom artist, an instructor at the Ottawa School of Art, and the Creative Director of Corel Corporation. Her interest in art, philosophy, and religion has led to travels throughout the world: India, Nepal and Tibet, North and South America, South East Asia, and Australia.

Aili paints in oils, acrylics, and pastels at her studio overlooking Pike Lake near Perth, Ontario. Her award-winning paintings have been featured in The International Artist Magazine, The Pastel Journal, the Artist's Magazine, and Kudos International Art Competition. Recently she was awarded the title of Master Pastellist from the Pastel Artists of Canada.

The Manotick Art Association holds regular meetings from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. usually on the first Tuesday of the month from September through June at Tomkins Hall in the lower level of St. James' Anglican Church, 1138 Bridge Street, Manotick, ON. Always informative and a chance to socialize with fellow artists, the meetings begin with MAA business, announcements of interest and a welcome to new members followed by our MAA spotlight artist - an opportunity for one or two members to showcase some of their recent work. After a brief break for refreshments, our featured guest speaker, chosen from various disciplines in the art world will give a presentation. You can see a reference list of past guest speakers for a sense of topics covered. At one of the meetings during the year, we arrange for a critique of members' artwork by a local prominent artist. The membership is invited to suggest future guest speakers to our program chair. Get-togethers in June and December are potluck socials and there are no meetings during July and August.

MAA Spotlight Artists
